IS Seafood

IS Seafood supplies China’s top restaurants with a wide variety of single-frozen, sustainably-harvested, imported seafood. The company utilizes industry-leading cold chain logistics and state-of-the-art processing and packaging techniques to serve a diverse set of customers including, online consumer retailers, air catering companies, hotels, restaurants, catering companies and wholesale distributors.  IS Seafood is unique among food suppliers to this segment because it controls 100 percent of the integrity of the supply chain— from purchasing to delivery.  The company purchases directly from producers around the world, imports the products into China, processes the items in its own facility, and resells it directly to a wide network of customers.

Recognizing the need for high-quality imported seafood in China, Roche founded IS Seafood in 2013, along with Bigir Stefansson and Benjamin Johnson. Under their leadership, the company has quickly gained the reputation as a top quality supplier to the food service industry within China.  Roche has secured funding to ensure that IS Seafood is poised for dramatic growth, and the company’s aggressive expansion includes the recent acquisition of LandSea, Inc., a division of Armadora Pereira S.A. and a leading distributor of seafood to hotels and restaurant suppliers in China.

Biggi Stefansson

Biggi Stefansson, co-founder and co-owner of IS Seafood, was born in Siglufjordor, a small fishing town of 1,200 people situated at the Northern most point of Iceland. Coming from a long line of seamen, both his great-grandfather and father were fishing boat captains, and he was surrounded by the industry his whole life.  Biggi started his career as a deckhand on a fishing trawler in his native Iceland at the age of 14 and became a captain five years later.

In 2005, Biggi founded his first company in China, Million Nation Ltd., and earned a business degree from Shanghai University. Million Nation is an import export company servicing supermarket chains in Europe and Africa.

In 2012, Biggi left the day-to-day management of Million Nation to lay the groundwork for IS Seafood, a company that combined his two great passions in life: Icelandic seafood and doing business in China. Outside of IS Seafood and Million Nation, Biggi is the Area Director of the Entrepreneurs Organization Greater China and the Vice Chairman of the Icelandic Chamber of Commerce in Greater China. He is fluent in Chinese.
